VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior
Olivia Santos won two individual events and anchored both first-place relay teams, highlighting Binghamton's split against Marist in a swimming & diving dual meet on Friday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The Bearcat women won the Senior Day meet 170.5-129.5 while the Marist men – which came into the day with a 9-2 dual meet record – won 195-99.
Santos swept the women's 50 free and 100 free with times of 25.09 and 53.98 respectively. She also anchored the first-place 400 medley relay team, which won in 4:01.63, and the 200 free relay team, which recorded a winning time of 1:40.05.
Also winning a pair of events for the Bearcat women was fellow senior
Rebecca Nelson. She captured the 200 breast (2:29.21) and the 200 IM (2:14.00).
Other individual winners on the women's side included senior
Sydney Atendido in the 100 breast (1:06.83), junior
Kaitlyn Smolar in the 200 free (1:57.26) and freshman
Audrey Pesek in the 100 fly (58.69).
Joining Santos on the 400 free relay team were Atendido, junior
Erica Bachiller and freshman
Manuela Matkovic. Pesek, senior
Kaitlyn Lange and sophomore
Belen Marriaga were the other three swimmers on the 200 free relay.
Sophomore
Ryan Board won the men's 100 breast with a time of 59.09. The Bearcat men also won the 200 free relay, with the first-place quartet including freshman
Ryan Maierle, seniors Dylan VanManen and
Dylan Roney as well as junior
Cameron DeGuzman.
"I thought we had a good day," head coach
Jerry Cummiskey said. "Marist was a tough test for our men's team but I thought they raced well. Our women had a great day top to bottom today and our seniors had some great wins on Senior Day, which was nice to see."
Prior to the meet, Binghamton honored its 17 seniors – 11 on the women's team and six on the men's side.
The Bearcat men's team is off until its Jan. 20 meet at St. Bonaventure. The women, meanwhile, head to Vermont for a 10 a.m. meet on Sunday.
