MIAMI, Fla. – The Binghamton swimming & diving teams took part in the Florida International University (FIU) Sprint Relays on Saturday at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center. The Bearcat men were third out of 13 teams in the competition while the women were fourth.
"It was good to compete today after training down here for a few days," head coach
Jerry Cummiskey said. "The team did a nice job and we are in a good place right now with six weeks left before the conference meet. We are looking forward to having a few more good training sessions before heading back to Binghamton."
Individually, freshman
Ryan Cohn led Binghamton with a first-place finish in the men's three-meter diving event (252.7). He was followed by junior Eric Temple in second place (245.50) and sophomore
Chris Egan in third place (232.55).
Other top men's finishers included sophomore
Ryan Board, who was third in the 100 breast (59.24), freshman
Jackson Homan, who was fourth in the 100 IM (53.80) and fellow freshman
Ryan Maierle, who was fourth in the 100 free (49.53).
Homan was also sixth in the 100 breast (1:00.18) and seventh in the 50 breast (27.17) while Board was also fifth in the 50 breast (26.99).
Also recording top-five finishes were senior
Tyler Meyers in the 100 IM (53.96), sophomore Ben Beldner in the 100 free (49.67) and freshman
Matthew Palguta in the 400 free (3:58.05).
On the women's side, junior
Kaitlyn Smolar was the Bearcats top overall finisher, placing fourth in the 400 free (4:15.08). Sophomore Katie Schultz was fifth in the same event (4:19.56).
Senior
Sydney Atendido was seventh in both the 50 breast (31.11) and 100 breast (1:09.16). Junior
Sophia Howard, meanwhile, was seventh in the one-meter diving competition.
Binghamton returns home for a dual meet against Marist next Friday at 1 p.m.
