Men’s tennis adds Verma, Weekes to incoming class

Duo will look to add to Bearcats’ strong young core

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton University men's tennis coach Nick Zieziula has announced the addition of two incoming student-athletes for the fall. The Bearcats will welcome Shourya Verma (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and Kyle Weekes (Lasalle, Quebec) as the team continues to build on its strong young core.

"We have been working hard to round out our recruiting class and we took some big steps forward with signing Shourya and Kyle to add to Josh Roe-Flannelly who signed earlier this year," Zieziula said. "Both of these young men have explosive games with lots of fire power to be able to make an impact in the lineup immediately. More importantly, the maturity and growth mindset that these two have matches up well with Josh and the returners."

Verma, a U16 National Doubles Finalist, comes in with his highest national doubles ranking at 11th in Canada. He also finished fifth at the 2020 Ontario Indoor Provincials, and represented Alberta in the 2017 Canada Games, where he and his partner earned a fourth-place doubles finish. In singles, he is currently ranked 24th in Ontario.

Weekes is currently ranked 8th in Quebec and 22nd in Canada in singles. At one point, the Lasalle native had cracked the top five in the province and top 20 in the nation. As a 16-year old, he was ranked as high as third in Quebec.

The two future Bearcats will look to immediately contribute to Binghamton's young lineup, who will have a flurry of talented underclassmen return to campus in the fall.
