Bearcats add two more scholarship recruits, local standout and eye return of Bruce

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's basketball coach Tommy Dempsey has rounded out his 2020-21 roster with the addition of two recruits: junior Christian Hinckson (Queens, N.Y./John Bowne HS/Manhattan College) and freshman Kellen Amos (Houston, Texas/St. John Prep).

Hinckson, a 6-foot-7 guard, played his first two collegiate seasons at Manhattan, helping the Jaspers to 16 wins in the MAAC and a pair of postseason victories. Hinckson led Manhattan in minutes (29.1/game), steals (47, 4th in MAAC) and 3-point percentage (46%) and was second in rebounding (5.5/game). He averaged 7.2 points and scored in double figures eight times. Hinckson nearly posted a double-double in lifting the team to its postseason win over Fairfield with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Amos, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 23.5 points and 6.8 rebounds last season at St. John XXIII College Prep. He led the team with 73 3-pointers and shot 56 percent from the floor. Amos compiled more than 1,200 points in just two seasons at St. John, and was a two-time first team all-district selection. He was a candidate for the 2019-20 Guy V. Lewis Player of the Year, which annually honors the top high school basketball player in the Houston area.

Dempsey also is anticipating the return of 6-foot-9 senior center Thomas Bruce, who has missed the last two seasons. Bruce is a two-time America East All-Defensive Team selection who led the conference in blocks (2.1/game) and was second in rebounding (8.8/game) in 2017-18. He averaged 11.1 points that season and has 708 career points in three collegiate seasons.

Rounding out the roster is a familiar name to Southern Tier sports fans - Tommy Dempsey, Jr. The former Seton Catholic Central standout spent his first collegiate year at Big East member Providence and has transferred back home to play for his father and reunite with former Seton backcourt mate Leo Gallagher.
