VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (6-5-1, 2-1 America East) faces another strong test when BU welcomes conference unbeaten Hartford (7-1-2, 2-0-1 AE) at noon Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex.Â
The Bearcats are coming off a 4-1 home win over UMBC Thursday night. In that game, BU broke a 1-1 tie with three second-half goals, including two in a four-minute span. Netting their first goals of the season were
Stefania Piantadosi,
Victoria McKnight,
Lexi Vegoda and
Nicole Scudero (first of career).
Maya Anand collected two assists to boost her league-leading points total to 15. The four goals were the most BU has scored in a game all season.
After today, BU (4-1 at home) plays three of the next four on the road.
The Hawks are riding a strong final Division I campaign after the school announced in May that it would begin a transition down to Division III. Hartford has outscored opponents 19-4 and is unbeaten in America East play. On Thursday, they tied Albany 1-1 to extend the team's unbeaten streak to seven games. All-conference graduate keeper Maia Perez owns a .909 save percentage (6th in nation) and a 0.38 goals against average (10th). Sophomore forward Imani Jenkins is tied for second with
Maya Anand in the conference for goals (6). Hartford, winners of four AE regular season titles in the last seven years, was picked to finish sixth in the Coaches' Preseason Poll.
Hartford holds a commanding 13-5-1 lead in the head-to-head series, though the matchup is much closer in Vestal (5-4 Hartford). The Hawks have won nine of the last 10 meetings, including the most recent game - a 1-0 win here in 2009. Twelve of the 19 games have been decided by one goal. Binghamton's last win was a 1-0 home victory in 2017
