VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team will compete in its second home game against Vermont Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats and Catamounts will begin play at 4 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex as a part of a lacrosse afternoon doubleheader with the mens team.

BU (1-1 overall) is coming off a 19-13 defeat at the hands of Albany last weekend. The team opened the season with an 11-8 win over UMass Lowell.

Paige Volkmann, the team's leading goal scorer, finished with six goals for the Bearcats against the Great Danes to give her eight total goals on the season.

Freshman Madison Murphy tallied four goals and an assist to stay hot in her young career with a total of seven goals.

Alyssa Sanchez was excellent on both offense and defense with a goal, an assist, and three ground balls while controlling six draws.

Isabella Meli contributed two caused turnovers, two draw controls and a ground ball off the bench.
Scouting Vermont

Vermont is 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the America East this season.

The Catamounts are coming off a 13-4 win over New Hampshire this past Saturday and beat Hartford on the road earlier in the season. Their one loss is against Boston University.

Mackenzie Ballard (nine goals, three assists) and Ava Vasile (nine goals, three assists) are the team leaders in goals, assists, and total points for Vermont, while Vasile also has picked up nine ground balls and caused a team high six turnovers.

Goalie Sophie McLaughlin has 29 saves this season with a .644 save percentage, and is the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week this past week.

The Catamounts lead the series history 12-6, but BU has won three of the last four matchups, including their most recent victory on March 24, 2018 (15-8).
