VESTAL, NY-- Freshman
Kandice Chandra and junior
Ryan Board each won three individual events, leading Binghamton to a sweep over St. Bonaventure in a swimming & diving dual meet on Saturday afternoon at the Saunders Aquatic Center. The men took a 185-111 decision while the women won by a 179-121 margin. With the victories, both Bearcat squads finished the regular season a perfect 5-0.
"I am so proud of all that our teams have accomplished in the pool and on the boards through our dual meet season," said head coach
Jerry Cummiskey. "Winning is always exciting, but more importantly I think we have gotten better as a team over the last five weeks. We are excited to be 5-0 but now our focus switches to being ready to be the best we can in the next 2-3 weeks at the America East Championships."
Chandra won the 100 back (1:00.59), the 200 back (2:09.78) and the 100 butterfly (1:01.28). She also joined freshman
Courtney Moane, sophomore
Manuela Matkovic, and freshman
Molly Greeley to win the 200 medley relay (1:50.52).
Board's three victories came in the 100 breast (57.56), the 200 breast (2:07.79) and the 200 IM (1:57.76). He was also part of the first-place men's 200 medley relay team that included senior
Shane Morris, freshman
Jake Vecchio, and freshman
Travis Phillips. The Bearcat quartet clocked a time of 1:34.88.
Senior
Sophia Howard swept the female diving events, scoring 250.57 points in the one-meter event and 240.60 points in the three-meter competition. She has now won seven of the eight events she has entered this season.
Other double winners in the women's meet included senior
Kaitlyn Smolar in the 200 free (1:58.64) and the 500 free (5:15.50) as well as Greeley in the 50 free (25:45) and the 100 free (54.39). For Greeley, it marked the first two individual victories of her collegiate career.
Smolar also joined freshmen
Courtney Moane and
Lara Geelen and sophomore
Manuela Matkovic to win the 200 free relay (1:41.68).
Winning two events in the men's meet was sophomore
Justin Meyn in the 50 free (21.62) and the 100 free (47.82).Â
Other individual winners included freshman
Zachary Ciriaco in the 1000 free (9:49.13), freshman
Liam Murphy in the 200 free (1:44.31), Vecchio in the 200 fly (1:58.91) and sophomore
Matthew Palguta in the 500 free (4:46.80).
Meyn and Murphy also joined junior
Benjamin Beldner and and freshman
Travis Phillips to win the 200 free relay (1:25.78).
The diving portion of the America East Championships will be held at the Saunders Aquatic Center April 17-18 while the swimming events will take place at NJIT April 23-25.Â
