Afternoon tilt in Smithfield, R.I. kicks off three straight road games for Bearcats

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer begins a stretch of three straight road games when the Bearcats (1-1) head to Rhode Island to face Bryant (0-0) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be played on the natural grass Bulldog Soccer Field and broadcast on the NEC Front Row network.

The Bearcats are coming off a 2-0 home win over Fordham on Sunday. A pair of second-half goals by Maya Anand and Olivia McKnight - both off passes from Stefania Piantadosi - provided the offensive firepower. In goal, senior keeper Haylee Poltorak made eight saves for the shutout.

Bryant had its season opener postponed Sunday due to Hurricane Henri and so the Bulldogs will be making their 2021 debut against BU. The team returns eight seniors from a squad that went 3-5 in the abbreviated spring season. Among the key leaders is defender Kellie Errasti, an All-NEC selection as a junior. The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth out of 11 in the NEC Preseason Poll. In the team's last full season in 2019, Bryant went 9-4-4, including a 7-0-3 mark in the NEC.

The two teams have squared off four times, including three straight years from 2016-18. Binghamton holds a 2-1-1 record but the margin has been slim. Bryant won 1-0 in Vestal in 2016, the teams played to a scoreless tie one year later in Smithtown and BU posted a 1-0 overtime win back in Vestal in 2018.
