Teams kick-off at noon in America East opener as BU looks to extend win streak

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer brings a two-game win streak into its America East opener when BU (4-4-1) hosts Vermont (3-3-1) at noon Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game will be show on ESPN+.

The Bearcats finished their nine-game non-conference slate with three distinct sections. They began in August by going 2-1-1 before dropping three straight one-game games to open September. But in the team's last two outings, BU has outscored opponents 5-1 to climb back up to the .500 mark. Now Binghamton begins its 20th season of competition in the America East, where they are the defending finalists from last spring. The program is 6-11-2 all-time in its America East opener. Last spring, BU started with a 2-1 road win at Albany.

Up front, junior forward Maya Anand leads the America East in game-winning goals (3) and ranks second in goals (5) and third in points (11). Junior midfielder Olivia McKnight is fourth in goals (4) and sixth in points (9). Sophomore midfielder Victoria McKnight and senior forward Stefania Piantadosi share the conference lead with three assists apiece. In goal, senior Haylee Poltorak is second in save percentage (.842) and saves per game (5.33) and third in goals against average (0.90).

Vermont is winless in its last three games, including a 2-1 loss to Bryant in its last outing one week ago. The Catamounts do own an impressive 3-2 win over a Siena team that pinned a 2-0 loss on the Bearcats eight days earlier. After going 1-4-1 last spring, Vermont was picked to finish seventh (out of 10) in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. Sophomore forward Abbey Knobel was an All-Rookie selection.
