VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton volleyball will head to Providence for a weekend tournament, starting with a matchup against Fairleigh Dickinson Friday afternoon. The team will follow Friday's action with matches against Providence and St. Peters Saturday.
The Bearcats are coming off a tournament at Lehigh last weekend, as they were defeated in three matches. In a contest against St. Francis Brooklyn, BU fell in five sets, but had several strong individual performances offensively and defensively.
In her second career start, Carly Powell had 15 kills, and junior Anna Sprys added 11 on a .529 hitting percentage. Five Bearcats registered double-digit digs, including Emily Rail's 19. She leads the team with 74 digs on the season.

Binghamton opens up play against the Knights, who are 3-3 on the season, with victories against Manhattan, Maryland Eastern-Shore, and Siena.Â
Leading the way offensively for FDU is Madison Beirne, who has 55 kills on the campaign. Three others have registered over 40 kills, including Magdalena Maksimovic, who is also second on the team with 44 digs.
Allegra Rivas has been the leader for the Knights defensively, contributing 88 digs in just six matches. Alix Christie has been strong at the net, with 13 blocks.
FDU has losses against Robert Morris, New Hampshire and Providence.

Host Friars start the season 6-1
Providence has opened non-conference play in strong form, winning six of seven matches. Last weekend, the Friars defeated FDU, Siena and New Hampshire, only dropping two sets over the three matches.
Shaliyah Rhoden is off to a hot start, and is already one kill away from 100 on the year. The freshman has a hitting percentage of .312, and is coming off a 21-kill performance against New Hampshire.
Like Rhoden, Mackenzie Taylor is also near the century mark, but with digs. The senior has had over 10 digs in every match she has played this season, and stands at 98 on the campaign.
The Friars' only loss this season came at Army.

St. Peters looking for first win
The Peacocks entered the week at 0-7, and have a match against St. Francis Brooklyn Wednesday before making the trip to Rhode Island.
Alanis Alvarado has been a key offensive piece for St. Peters. She has 52 kills in just 18 sets played. Freshman Suzanne Bigelow has been an important addition this season, leading the way with 17 blocks.
BU and St. Peters will face off for the first time this weekend.Â
