NEW YORK, N.Y. – For the second week in a row and third time in his career, graduate student Dan Schaffer has broken four minutes in the mile. He turned in a time of 3:59.31 in the Michael Blum Invitational Mile on Saturday afternoon at the Millrose Games, which were held at the New York City Armory.

Schaffer was the top collegiate finisher in the race, finishing behind a pair of unattached runners. Shane Streich of the Atlanta Track Club was first in 3:57.98 and was followed by Luke McCann of Ireland in second place (3:58.21).
Also running in the Michael Blum Invitational Mile was 2018 Binghamton alum Eric Holt, who was fifth overall (4:00.92).

Schaffer's top mile time this season is 3:58.84, which ranks No. 17 at the NCAA Division I level. He clocked that time last Saturday at the Penn State National Open. His other sub-four minute mile was a 3:58.44 at the Toledo Rocket Invitational last May.

Binghamton took part in two other track & field meets on Saturday – the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Challenge and the Cornell/Kane Invitational.

At Cornell, freshman Jennifer Mui was the top finisher, winning the 1,000 with a time of 3:10.72. Fellow freshman Jenna Chan tied her own freshman record in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.74, which was good for second place overall. Allso earning runner-up honors was junior Mallorie Turner in the triple jump (35-5 1/4).
