Freshman McPherson captures No. 5 singles flight with 3-0 showing

KALAMAZOO, Mich. Freshman James McPherson captured a singles title in the fifth flight to highlight the Binghamton men's tennis showing at the MAC Invite, hosted by Western Michigan at West Hills Athletic Club. The three-day event featured all six teams in the MAC and consisted of three doubles and six singles flights.

McPherson began with a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3 win over Greg Hastings of Buffalo and then toppled WMU's Ferdinand Schlueter, 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the semifinals. In the championship match, McPherson posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Buffalo's Theodoris Mitsakos.

"I'm very proud of how we finished up the weekend," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "It was a great job by James (McPherson) to take his flight. It was a very mature and steady weekend of singles for him. Overall, our record wasn't what we were shooting for but we learned a lot and took some very positive steps forward for the whole team."

Two other freshmen - Ronin Lotlikar (4th singles) and Andrew Fang (6th) - went 2-1 and placed third in their respective singles brackets.

The Bearcats concluded their fall season and will be off until opening up spring semester play with a dual match at University of Miami on January 14.
