Verma, Roe Flannelly and Crawford win singles matches but Bearcats edged in road

NEWARK, N.J. - Host NJIT took the opening doubles point before the teams split six singles matches, resulting in a narrow 4-3 loss for Binghamton men' tennis Sunday afternoon at Naimoli Tennis Center.

Sophomore Shourya Verma earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Earlier, he paired with sophomore Adi Ben-Ari for a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles. Freshman No. 3 Joshua Roe Flannelly won his match in straight sets and sophomore Courage Crawford provided BU's other point with a three-set win.

"We keep putting ourselves in tight matches and giving ourselves chances to win," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "There are lots of positives we can take from these last two matches into two weeks of prep before conference play. Courage has really stepped up his play and now put together three straight wins, which is a big step forward for him."

The Bearcats are off until beginning MAC play March 12 at Buffalo.
