BURLINGTON, Vt. – Graduate student
Dan Schaffer won two events while
Emily Mackay broke a meet record, highlighting Binghamton's performance during the second and final day of the America East Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which were hosted by the University of Vermont. The Bearcat men were third out of nine teams while the women's squad placed fourth overall.
"It was a great team effort for both the men and women this weekend," head coach
Mike Thompson said. "We performed well in all events and are thrilled with the outcome."
Schaffer won the men's 1,500 for the third year in a row, clocking a time of 4:01.13. He then anchored the first-place men's 4x800 relay team, which also included redshirt freshman
Sean Ryan as well as juniors
Mark Scanlon and
Cian Galligan.
For his career, Schaffer now has five individual America East track & field titles and has anchored three first-place relay teams.
Mackay, meanwhile, won the women's 800 with a time of 2:06.46. The four-time All-American broke conference record of 2:07.01, which was set by Yolanda Nagarambe of Vermont back in 2014.

Binghamton's fourth and final champion during the weekend was sophomore
Nick Malfitano, who captured the men's decathlon with a score of 6,265 points. He is the first Bearcat to win that event at the America East meet since Troy Zanger in 2018.
