VESTAL, N.Y. - With just two games left before conference play starts, Binghamton women's soccer will look to start building momentum when the Bearcats (1-4-1) travel to Teaneck, N.J. for a noon match at FDU (1-6) on Sunday. It's the fifth road game in seven to start the season.
On Thursday, BU dug a 2-0 hole against ACC member Syracuse but scored a second-half goal and pressed for the equalizer before losing 2-1 at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Senior midflelderÂ
Victoria McKnight scored the goal - her first of the season - off a clever feed from classmate
Maya Anand. Senior
Nicole Scott (1.67 GAA) and sophomore
Kaitlyn Williams (2.00) continue to share the goalkeeping duties with Scott starting all six games and Williams playing the second half of each.Â
FDU is coming off a 5-1 rout of visiting Rider on Thursday. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Knights, who were kept off the board for the last five of those losses, though one setback understandably came against No. 8 Virginia (5-0). FDU has plenty of weapons on its roster and the team was picked to finish second (of 10) in the Northeast Conference Preseason Poll - the third straight year the Knights were picked as runnersup. The program has played in three of the last five NEC title games. The 2022 squad boasts reigning NEC Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year in Aitana Martinez-Montoya. She has two goals and five points early this season. Sophomore Malene Nielsen (2.64 GAA) is the reigning NEC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Binghamton leads the all-time series 9-3 and has won four of the last five head-to-head matchups, including a 2-1 win in Vestal back in 2019. The Bearcats are 6-0 at home in the series but 3-3 in New Jersey, and have dropped two of the last three there, including a 1-0 loss in 2015. The last three contests have each been decided by just one goal.Â
