VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer begins its 21st season of America East play when the Bearcats (2-4-2) host first-year member Bryant (3-4-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Bearcats are coming off a 1-1 home draw with Cornell on Wednesday.
Maya Anand netted her team-high fourth goal in the 76th minute to tie the game.
Victoria McKnight drew the assist, thanks to a driving free kick that led to Anand's tap-in rebound.
Kaitlyn Williams made seven saves in goal.
Anand ranks third in the America East in both goals (4) and points (9).Â
Binghamton is 8-10-2 all-time in AE openers and has won the last three.
First-year conference member Bryant has gone unbeaten in its last three games (2-0-1) after dropping four straight. Nine different players have scored goals for Bryant this fall. Among the losses were a 3-1 setback against former AE member Stony Brook and a 4-0 loss at Maine up in Orono. The Bulldogs tied Merrimack 1-1 on Thursday.
The team returns three all-conference selections and 20 players from an 8-11 squad that reached the Northeast Conference semifinals. Sophomore forward Catie Bean tallied seven goals and six assists last year and was an All-NEC second team pick. Junior keeper Kate McNeil also was named all-conference. McNeil (1.30 GAA) is the reigning America East Defensive Player of the Week.
Bryant was picked to finish seventh (of nine) in the Coaches' Preseason Poll. Binghamton was chosen fourth. The Bearcats are 3-1-2 all-time against Bryant, including a 3-1 win last fall in Smithfield, R.I. Binghamton has a three-game unbeaten string in the series (2-0-1).Â
