VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis grabbed two singles titles at their three-day home event, the Haggery Championships, sponsored by The Star Group. The seven-team event was held at both the outdoor Lane Tennis Center and indoors at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The event is named in honor of Michael Haggerty, a part owner of The Star Group who passed away suddenly this past year. The Star Group has been a great supporter of BU men's tennis over the last few years.

Freshman Ronin Lotlikar went 3-0 to capture the "B" singles flight and sophomore teammate Kyle Weekes also went 3-0 to take the "C" singles flight. Seior Dan Pergel and freshmen William Morais Binnie, Andrew Fang and James McPherson each won a pair of matches in their respective flights. 

The Bearcats went a combined 7-5 in doubles, with all three tandems of Pergel and Lotlikar, Weekes and senior Michael Pawlowicz and McPherson and Morais Binnie each winning two of three matches. 

'It was a great weekend for us," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "The level of play overall was stronger and deeper then past years which really helped us test where everyone is. Michael (Pawlowicz) returning to capture his first wins in over 11 months was fantastic to see, and he's only just beginning. The freshmen class competed great and especially in doubles played our systems well. It was great to be able to honor Michael Haggerty with the renaming of this event. The Star Group has been a tremendous supporter of the program and Michael was a big tennis fan so it's fitting that the event can keep that legacy going."

Binghamton next competes at the ITA Northeast Regional on October 7-10 at West Point.
