CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Freshman
James McPherson and sophomore
Zubin Omar posted singles wins but Troy University (Alab.) (1-1) captured the doubles point and four singles matches to defeat the Bearcats (0-2) 5-2 Sunday afternoon at University of Miami's Neil Schiff Tennis Center.Â
The Sun Belt member Trojans swept all three doubles matches and then stretched a 2-1 team score with three straight singles wins.
Binghamton received singles wins from McPherson at No. 3 and newcomer Omar at No. 5. McPherson shook off being a set down and finished his foe off with a 6-0 third set. Omar won in straight sets.
"I'm really proud of the work we put in this week," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We hit a lot of balls and made some strides in our games. We have lots to improve on in doubles but in singles we gave ourselves good chances late in sets. Zubin has been a great addition ... he took control of his match and dominated the second set to get us on the board. James showed great resilience down a set and break and coming back to capture the second and third."
The Bearcats next face Dartmouth and Siena next Sunday in Hanover, N.H.
