Box Score BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis capped its nine-team, season-opening NateRentals.com Championship with several strong performances. Played indoors and outdoors at the newly-minted Lane-Starke Tennis Center, the Bearcats won two singles flights as competition concluded Sunday afternoon. Participating in the three-day event were players from Army, Bucknell, Buffalo, Colgate, Cornell, Le Moyne, Niagara and Siena.  

"It's been a tremendous week for Binghamton mens tennis," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "It was amazing to celebrate the dedication of the tennis center to two incredible supporters of the program in Michael Lane and Michael Starke. We are fortunate to have such tremendous support from President Stenger and AD Eugene Marshall. There aren't many tennis program nationally that get the support we get ... it's a very special place to be a student athlete. The Lane-Starke Tennis Center hosted more than 170 matches in three days and allowed for seamless transition from outdoor to indoor when the rain came. We're incredibly grateful for all three of our sponsors in NateRentals.com, Big Zues and LG&T who helped us put on a great event but who also support us on the sideline."

Winning singles crowns were sophomore Ronin Lotlikar and freshman Filipe Costa. Lotlikar went 3-0 to capture the "B" singles draw and Costa also won all three of his matches to claim the "C" flight. Sophomore James McPherson went 2-1 in the "C" flight and freshman Matt Carlson went 2-1 in the "G" draw. 

Costa also teamed up with sophomore William Morais Binnie for two wins in the "A" doubles flight, while McPherson and Carlson won twice in the "C" doubles flight. 

"Our singles play on the weekend was solid," Zieziula added. "It wasn't surprising to see Ronin take his flight ... he has really been working on being more aggressive and dictating play more and he did that well this weekend. Filipe had a fantastic debut taking down some seasoned veterans. Our doubles play improved as the matches went on but we need to manage our service games much better. We're going to study the tape from these, learn and make the adjustments we need to." 

The Bearcats next compete at the ITA Northeast Regional beginning Oct. 9 at Yale.
