Sakkas joins Bearcats next season from Athens, Greece

VESTAL, N.Y. (binghamtonbearcats.com) - Binghamton Men's Tennis added Ioannis Sakkas to its 2024-25 signing class, Head Coach Nick Zieziula announced Friday morning.

'It has been great getting to know Ioannis, his family and coaches over the last few months and we are thrilled to have him join us next year," said Zieziula. "Ioannis is going to be well prepared for the academic rigor of Binghamton in the classroom which will help make his adjustment smooth; on the court he is a big guy with a big upside and aggressive weapons that will help him succeed playing a lot of indoor tennis in the northeast."

Sakkas joins the Bearcats next season all the way from Athens, Greece where he is a member of the Greek national team. Sakkas ranks eighth among U18 players in the country and sat as high as third among U16 competitors. He also ranks within the top 100 U18 players in Europe.

The signee claimed the U16 G1 National Tournament singles title as well as a U18 ITF J60 championship in Agrinio, Greece. Most recently, Sakkas reached the singles quarterfinals at the ITF J60 this year in Tbilisi, Georgia.
