Box Score BOGOTA, N.J. – Host FDU (5-3) turned the tide in singles play and topped visiting Binghamton men's tennis (4-6) 5-2 Sunday night at Bogota Racquet Club. It was a primetime matchup between the teams picked to finish 1-2 in the NEC Preseason Poll. The Bearcats selected to win the conference title in their first season of membership and FDU has won two of the last three titles and was the 2023 tournament runnerup.
Binghamton took the doubles point with wins at the top two spots and appeared to be in good position with one-set leads in three of the singles matches. But the Knights rallied with victories in five of the six matches, including a pair of three-set battles at second and third singles.
Freshman No. 4
Filipe Costa was BU's lone singles winner with his straight-set triumph.
"It was a tough weekend for results ... an accumulation of little mistakes that added up," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "I'm really excited to see how this group responds. We're ready to learn from our mistakes the last little bit and move forward in a strong way."
The Bearcats next face Rider (9 a.m.) and Colgate (12:30 p.m.) Saturday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.
