Box Score BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Visiting NJIT (4-0) took a tight doubles point and then won four singles matches to defeat Binghamton men's tennis (2-3) 5-2 Sunday in the championship match of BU's four-team, two-day invite at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center.
Freshman
Filipe Costa rallied from a set down to post a 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles after sophomore No. 6
James McPherson gave BU its first point of the match with a straight-set win. But the fast-starting Highlanders took control of the other singles matches and remained unbeaten with the win.
"It was a disappointing result today against a solid NJIT squad," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "But I'm not disappointed with the effort and fight. We were down the doubles point and five first sets but pulled two of those back and were a couple of points from pushing Kyle's match to a third set as well. We never stopped battling. I think we can take a lot of positives from this one and keep building."
Binghamton meets Fairfield next Saturday at West Point and then hosts Marist at 5 p.m. Sunday night at the LSTC.
