Bearcats head to D.C. as first Binghamton team to christen the 2024-25 school year

VESTAL, N.Y. - After a two-plus week preseason buildup, Binghamton women's soccer kicks off the 2024-25 school year for Bearcat Athletics on Sunday when head coach Neel Bhattacharjee's squad plays at George Washington. In their first-ever meeting, the teams will square off at noon at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.

The Bearcats are coming off back-to-back America East regular season titles, including an unbeaten eight-game slate last fall (5-0-3). In fact, Binghamton has lost just once in its last 16 conference games (11-1-4). But Bhattacharjee will have a significantly revamped lineup in 2024, with 10 letterwinners departed, including six starters. Gone are four of the team's top-six point producers, two first team all-conference selections and all three captains.

On Sunday, Binghamton will also look to snap a string of three straight opening-day losses as they begin a stretch of three straight road games to open the 2024 campaign. After the game at GW, the Bearcats will head to Western New York next week for away games at Canisius (Thurs.) and St. Bonaventure (Sun.). The Bearcats will then welcome Monmouth on Aug. 29 in their home opener.

George Washington (0-0-1) opened its season with a 1-1 draw against American Thursday afternoon. Each team notched a first-half goal and American held a 14-11 shots edge. The Atlantic-10 member Revolutionaries return 23 letterwinners from a four-win team and are now headed by first-year coach Jeremy Williams.
