Cross Country Competes at Iona Meet of Champions

Mayclim 12th in men’s race, Leitner 16th in women’s event

IONA, N.Y. – Sophomore Bobby Mayclim was 12th overall in the men's race while senior Sydney Leitner finished 16th in the women's competition, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the Iona Cross Country Meet of Champions on Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park. In a meet featuring several top Ivy League schools, the Bearcat men were fifth out of 10 squads while the women placed fifth out of nine scoring teams.

Mayclim, who was named the America East Conference's Most Outstanding Rookie last year, covered the men's 8,000 meter course in a time of 25:44. He was followed in the team standings by junior Liam Cody in 15th place (25:53), senior Andrew Rosenblatt in 17th place (26:01), sophomore Nick Thomas in 18th place (26:03) and fellow sophomore John Garrison in 33rd place.

Jacob Nenow of Princeton won the individual title with a time of 25:02. He led the Tigers to a first-place tie with Yale in the team standings (69 points each).

There were 100 finishers in the men's race. 

Leitner, meanwhile, has been a first-team all-conference honoree three straight years. On Friday, she clocked a 5,000-meter time of 18:31. Leitner was followed in the team scoring by sophomore Anna Gansrow in 25th place (18:55), junior Brynn Hogan in 30th place (19:11), sophomore Alicia DeFilippis in 32nd place (19:18) and fellow sophomore Eleanor Lees in 37th place (19:25).

Princeton took six of the top seven places to run away with the women's team title, scoring just 19 points. First-place honors went to the Tigers' Meg Madison, who recorded a time of 17:32. 

There were 92 finishers in the women's competition.

Binghamton is back in action at the Lehigh/Paul Short Run on Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m.
