VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior doubles partners William Morais Binnie and Ronin Lotlikar captured the "A" doubles flight to highlight Binghamton men's tennis' showing at the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships this weekend at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center. The event, which featured all the NEC members, served as the singles and doubles qualifier for the ITA Conference Masters event.

With their 4-0 showing, capped by a gutsy title-match rally, Morais Binnie and Lotlikar will represent the NEC at the national event, held Nov. 6-9 in San Diego. The top-seeded pair reached the finals with a 6-0 trouncing of their opponents from Wagner in the semifinals but had to rally in the championship match against Stonehill. After dropping the opening set, Morais Binnie and Lotlikar pulled out a 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 victory. After trailing 10-9, the duo captured three straight points to close out the win.

Lotlikar also reached the singles semifinals after winning two matches. 

"I couldn't be happier for Ronin and Will finding their way through today," head coach Nick Zieziula said. "They were down 4-6,2-4 and had made maybe two bad tactical decisions through 16 games of doubles. They kept making the right choices, played with intensity and great attitudes but some poor serving on our end and great play by Stonehill had us down. We stayed with it, cleaned up the serving and a couple small execution errors and got our selves to 7-5 in the match tiebreak. Back-to-back return winners from Stonehill was just great play by them and then suddenly we had to face two match points to stay alive. Nerves of steel. This is a team with the ability to compete at the Masters and be in a position to qualify for NCAAs. The team performance in doubles this weekend was outstanding, 8-2 overall. All matches played in the top flight, four different teams and seven players."

Freshman Zihe "Harry" Liao also won two of his singles matches in the "D" singles flight and paired with junior James McPherson to go 2-1 in "A" doubles. 

The Bearcats continue their fall season Oct. 3-5 at the Army Invitational.
