Freshman back scored first career goal in victory over UMass Lowell

VESTAL, N.Y. – Freshman back Jona Meiner has been named the America East Co-Rookie of the Week. It marks the first time in his career that he has earned the conference's weekly accolade.

Meiner scored his first career goal in the Bearcats' 2-1 victory over UMass Lowell on Saturday. He was also part of a defense that was able to close out the match despite playing a man down the last 15 minutes.

Sharing the award with Meiner this week is Zain Thompson of NJIT.

Binghamton now has three players who have earned weekly honors from the America East so far this season. In addition to Meiner, senior back Saar Almoznino was chosen as the Defender of the Week on Sept. 8 and fellow senior Natan Jemaneh Admassu was named the Goalkeeper of the Week - also on Sept. 8.

Up next for Binghamton is its Senior Day Match against UMBC on Saturday at 1 p.m.
