VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team is sending more than a dozen of its wrestlers to compete at George Mason's Patriots Last Chance Open Sunday at GMU Field House in Fairfax, Va.
16 Bearcat wrestlers are registered to compete in the tournament, which serves as an opportunity to give competitors more matches before their conference tournament. The tournament will be broken into brackets of no more than eight wrestlers. Each wrestler will compete in a maximum of three or four matches wherever possible.
At least 169 wrestlers have registered to compete in this tournament. Other schools that will be represented at the event include No. 8 NC State, No. 11 Rutgers, No. 13 Michigan, No. 15 Pittsburgh and No. 21 Indiana.
This is the first time Binghamton is appearing in a competition since its final dual of the season at Cornell on Feb. 14. While the Bearcats fell to the Big Red 26-9, both
Mikey Squires and
Trent Sibble picked up a crucial win during the dual. Squires pinned Carson Crace in the 197 lb., bout, while Sibble closed out the dual with a 3-2 decision in overtime against Cy Kruse at 285 lbs.
Following his victory over Crace, Squires reentered the national rankings by placing No. 33 in the latest InterMat poll.
Carter Baer also moved up one spot in the InterMat rankings to No. 19, which is where he is also ranked in the FloWrestling poll.
