VESTAL, N.Y. – For the first time in his career,
Flynn Wilson has been selected as the Face-Off Specialist of the Week by the America East Conference, the league announced Monday.
This follows Wilson posting one of the strongest performances ever by a face-off specialist for the Binghamton men's lacrosse team during its game at New Jersey Institute of Technology last Saturday. The sophomore won 18 out of 21 face-off attempts and collected 11 ground balls, both career highs. Off one of those face-off victories, Wilson also scored his first collegiate goal seven seconds into the second quarter against the Highlanders.
Wilson came up just short of a couple of Binghamton program records. Wilson's 18 faceoff victories are three shy of tying the record of 21 victories by one player in a game. That record is held by Wilson's two predecessors, Matthew DeSouza and Ross Chazanow. DeSouza first set the record against NJIT on April 3, 2021. The next year, Chazanow matched it with 21 victories of his own against Mount St. Mary's on March 4, 2024. Meanwhile, Wilson's 11 ground balls are also three shy of tying the mark of 14 collected by a player in one game. Dan Mazurek set the record with 14 against Vermont on April 12, 2014, and then tied his own record against UMBC on March 19, 2016.
Wilson is the first Bearcat to be named Face-Off Specialist of the Week by the America East since Chazanow received the honor on April 15, 2024. Overall, this is the fourth weekly honor Binghamton has received from the America East so far this season, and second in as many weeks.
Connor Winters has been named Goalkeeper of the Week twice (Feb. 16 and March 2), while
Andrew Girolamo was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week on March 16.
Binghamton (2-6, 1-1 America East) now prepares for its final non-conference game of the season as the Bearcats face Delaware (1-7, 0-2 Atlantic 10) at 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 28 at Delaware Stadium.
Station 45 American Chop House is the presenting sponsor of Bearcats Men's Lacrosse.
