VESTAL, N.Y. –
Flynn Wilson of the Binghamton men's lacrosse team has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (USILA) Division I Team of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday. Each week, 10 men's lacrosse players from across the country are voted onto the team for their performance the prior week.
This announcement comes a day after Wilson was named the Face-Off Specialist of the Week by the America East Conference. The accolades are a result of Wilson's career performance against New Jersey Institute of Technology last Saturday. The sophomore won 18 out of 21 face-off attempts and collected 11 ground balls, both career highs. Off one of those face-off victories, Wilson also scored his first collegiate goal seven seconds into the second quarter against the Highlanders.
Wilson came up just short of a couple of Binghamton program records. Wilson's 18 face-off victories are three shy of tying the record of 21 victories by one player in a game. That record is held by Wilson's two predecessors, Matthew DeSouza and Ross Chazanow. DeSouza first set the record against NJIT on April 3, 2021. The next year, Chazanow matched it with 21 victories of his own against Mount St. Mary's on March 4, 2024. Meanwhile, Wilson's 11 ground balls are also three shy of tying the mark of 14 collected by a player in one game. Dan Mazurek set the record with 14 against Vermont on April 12, 2014, and then tied his own record against UMBC on March 19, 2016.
Wilson is the second Binghamton player in as many weeks to be named to the USILA's Division I Team of the Week.
Andrew Girolamo was previously chosen for the team on March 17 after he scored a career-high seven goals, caused a career-high two turnovers and collected two ground balls in Binghamton's 16-9 win over UMass Lowell on March 14.
The last time Binghamton had a player named to the team in consecutive weeks was back in 2024.
Connor Winters first was chosen for the team on April 10, before
Liam Ferris was selected on April 17. Overall, the Bearcats have had at least two players selected to the team in each of the last three seasons.
Binghamton (2-6, 1-1 America East) is preparing for its final non-conference game of the season as the Bearcats face Delaware (1-7, 0-2 Atlantic 10) at 3 p.m., on Saturday, March 28 at Delaware Stadium.
