After opening season with a win, Bearcats welcome Red Foxes for 1 p.m. campus kickoff

VESTAL, N.Y. - After opening their season with a triumphant 3-0 win Thursday, Binghamton women's soccer welcomes Marist to campus for a 1 p.m. Sunday tilt at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

The Bearcats stretched a 1-0 halftime lead over Lehigh with two second-half goals, held a 16-3 shots advantage and got 24 players into the contest to save legs for Sunday's follow-up game. Junior forward Jahkaya Davis scored twice - both off feeds from senior forward Paige Luke - and freshman Chelsea Donaldson notched her first collegiate goal in her very first game.

Marist will be playing its season opener. The Red Foxes return 17 players from last year's 6-8-5 squad. The team, coached by former Bearcat assistant Nicole Pacapelli Ciano, was picked tied for sixth (of 13) in the Metro Conference. Assisting Pacapelli on staff are former Bearcats Mackenzie Hanna '21 and Allison Falvo '26.

The Bearcats hold a narrow 2-1-2 lead in the all-time series. Last season, Binghamton traveled to Poughkeepsie and came away with a 2-1 win in its fourth game of the fall. The Bearcats tallied a goal in each half and controlled play  throughout, especially in the first half when they held a 12-0 shots bulge and added seven corner kicks. Then-freshman Ale Victoriano and Davis scored goals and despite giving up a second-half goal on a defensive lapse, Binghamton outshot Marist 14-4 and held on for the win. The Bearcats are riding a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-2) in the series, which dates back to 2012. Four of the five games have been decided by one goal or less.
