BUFFALO, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (11-9) split two tight matches to begin its weekend Friday in Western New York. The Bearcats defeated Niagara 4-3 before dropping a 4-3 match to No. 72 Buffalo.

Against Niagara (8-9) in the afternoon, BU captured the doubles point and then the teams split the six singles matches. The Bearcats then got wins from junior Robin Lesage (No. 2), sophomore Alexander Maisin (No. 3) and senior Florian van Kann (No. 6) to clinch the win. With the score knotted at 3-3, Lesage provided the winning margin with his 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1 win.

At Buffalo, BU grabbed the doubles point but won one just two of the six singles matches at the Miller Tennis Center. The Bulls (10-5) clinched the win with a three-set victory at No. 1 singles.

Maisin and junior No. 5 Ismael Dinia earned hard-fought three-set wins.

The Bearcats will remain in Buffalo to face Western Michigan at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
