RICHMOND, Va. - Binghamton men's tennis (4-3) won the first match of the day at No. 1 doubles before host VCU (8-1) took control and posted a 6-1 win over the Bearcats Friday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Rams won the clinching doubles match at No. 3 to take an early 1-0 lead. Down 2-0, BU grabbed a point when senior No. 1
Sid Hazarika posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Michal Voscek. But VCU pulled out a pair of three-set matches at second and fourth singles and wound up winning five of the six singles contests.
"We left a lot out on the table today," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We started with great energy in the doubles but didn't finish opportunities. We've shown glimpses of what we can do as a group but we've got to buckle down and hold ourselves to a higher standard the whole way through. We had a dominating performance at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles today. We need to build off those performances and the opportunities that we had with Eliott (Hureau) and Ludovico (Cestarollo) in the singles today and use that tomorrow."Â
The Bearcats face William & Mary at 10 a.m. Saturday in Williamsburg.Â
