WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Host William & Mary (6-2) took the doubles point and then won five of six singles matches to defeat Binghamton men's tennis (4-4) 6-1 Saturday morning at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
For the second straight day, BU won the first match off the court - this time at No. 1 doubles where senior
Eliott Hureau paired with freshman
Ludovico Cestarollo for a decisive 6-0 win. But the hosts took the final two doubles matches to grab the first point.Â
Hureau got Binghamton's lone singles win with a straight-set triumph at No. 2. He improved to 6-2 in duals, 13-7 overall. The Bearcats also grabbed the opening sets at No. 3 and No. 4 singles but William & Mary rallied for three-set wins at each position.Â
"We played fantastic tennis at No. 1 doubles but failed to keep the focus and aggressive play at 2 and 3," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "Our initial response in singles was positive ... we won three first sets and had break opportunities in Val's match. We need to be much tougher mentally to sustain our level when momentum changes in matches."
Binghamton next faces Duquesne on Feb. 19 in Pittsburgh.Â
