VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (12-7) made it five wins in a row with a 6-1 home triumph over Colgate Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Tennis Complex. The Bearcats won the doubles point and then took five of six singles matches to grab the win.
Senior No. 2
Eliott Hureau earned his 20th win of the season (20-10), as did freshman No. 4
Valentin Bouchet (20-8). Freshman No. 3
Ludovico Cestarollo and junior No. 4
Thomas Caputo made quick work of their foes with identical 6-2, 6-2 results. Â
"That goes down as a 6-1 win for us but tip of the hat to Colgate for battling hard today and making life difficult for us," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "They have a good shot to make a run at their conference tournament. It was good to take a doubles point and good to see Nos. 2 and 3 doubles implement some of the aggressive play that we worked on this week. We still have lots of room for improvement and we need to buckle down in some of those areas this week in order to secure our spot at the MAC tournament."
Binghamton (3-2 MAC) now readies for two crucial MAC matches at the end of the week, with a playoff spot still on the line. The Bearcats will face fellow 2015 MAC finalist Buffalo on Thursday before hosting Northern Illinois on Saturday. Binghamton currently sits in second place, a half-game ahead of a three-team cluster at 3-3. Only the top four teams advance to the postseason tournament.
