VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis coach
Nick Zieziula has bolstered his program with the addition of
Alejandro Pena (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar) for the fall.
Pena, who has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Colombia, was ranked as high as No. 2 in Colombia for U18 and also was among the top-10 junior players in South America for U14. He was born in Indianapolis and currently lives in Cali, Colombia.
He earned his first ATP point in October 2016 when he won three qualifying matches and then a main draw match at the Futures tournament in Manizales, Colombia. He advanced to the main draw in the Futures the next week as well, winning three matches before losing in three sets. Pena's highest ITF Junior world ranking was No. 435.Â
'We are thrilled to have Alejandro joining us next fall," Zieziula said. "Alejandro has shown the type of commitment to his studies and his training that will fit in well with at Binghamton University. We have been watching his progress for a while and we got the sense that he had the dedication and focus to start to make some big jumps in his game and those results started to come through this past fall. To make it through qualifying in Futures events multiple times shows a great level of maturity on court."
