KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Binghamton men's tennis split six singles matches with reigning Mid-American Conference champion Western Michigan but the host Broncos (12-7, 3-1 MAC) won the deciding doubles point and defeated the Bearcats (5-13, 0-3 MAC) 4-3 Monday afternoon. The match began outdoors and finished indoors at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos won at first and third doubles to grab the point and then clinched the team win with victories in the first three completed singles matches. Down 4-0, BU tightened the final score with wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 4.Â
Sophomore Ludovico Cestarollo worked through third-set super tiebreak for his win at the top spot. Freshman No. 3
Kushaan Nath raised his overall record to a team-best 22-13 with his straight-set win. Senior No. 4
Thomas Caputo also won his match.
"We've shown a lot of growth over the last few days and some things are starting to set in," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We fought well today and gave ourselves chances to take the match. If we continue on this path we are going to continue to improve and that's all we can control."
Binghamton finishes its two-match road trip at Northern Illinois on Wednesday afternoon. Â
