VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (7-15, 2-5 Mid-American Conference) won four of the six singles matches to rally past visiting Ball State 4-3 in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Tennis Complex. With the win BU moved into a four-way tie for third place in the MAC standings but the Bearcats came up short in the two-get-in tiebreak and saw their season come to an end.
Down 1-0 after losing the doubles point, BU responded in singles with wins by its top three players. Freshman No. 3
Kushaan Nath finished out a strong debut season with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win. Nath went a team-best 25-14 this year, including 14-7 in duals.Â
"We won a hard fought match against a tough Ball State team today but failed to make the MAC tournament, which is far below the expectations for this program," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "Our underclassmen need to learn from the mistakes that we made through the year and make the commitment to change starting tomorrow."
The match was the final for three seniors:
Thomas Caputo,
Frenk Kote and
Vihar Shah. The trio combined for 107 singles wins and 79 doubles wins.
