Cross Country Teams Sweep Canisius XC Alumni Classic

Both Bearcat teams place first out of 14 squads


BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Binghamton cross country teams closed out their regular seasons on a high note, sweeping the Canisius Cross Country Alumni Classic team titles on Saturday afternoon at Delaware Park. There were 14 teams in both the men's and women's races.

In addition, sophomore Anna Gansrow won her first career individual title, covering the women's 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:36. In the process, she won by four seconds over senior teammate Sydney Leitner, whose time was 17:40.

Finishing out the scoring for the Bearcats were freshman Alice Rappazzo in  fourth place (18:01), junior Brynn Hogan in fifth place (18:14) and sophomore Alicia DeFilippis, who finished eighth (18:17).

The Bearcats also finished with eight runners in the top 20 in the women's race. Sophomore Eleanor Lees was 13th (18:41), followed by freshman Taylor Page in 15th place (18:45) and sophomore Madeline Jensen in 19th place (18:55).

The Bearcats finished with just 20 points. Runner-up Robert Morris scored 91 points while Detroit Mercy had 93 points.

There were 154 finishers in the women's 5K race.

On the men's side, meanwhile, the Bearcats were led by sophomore Bobby Mayclim. He placed fifth overall with an 8,000-meter time of 25:04.

Completing the team scoring on the men's side were junior Liam Cody in eighth place (25:19), sophomore Nick Thomas in 10th place (25:24), senior Andrew Rosenblatt in 11th place (25:28) and Anthony Zazzaro in 17th place (25:52).

The men's squad placed six runners in the top 20. Freshman Noah Hilker finished 19th (25:57) followed by sophomore Oliver Jibb in 20th place (25:04).

As a team, Binghamton finished with 40 points. Detroit Mercy was the runner up with 70 points, followed by SUNY Geneseo in third place with 72 points.

There were 182 finishers in the men's race.

Up next for Binghamton is the America East Championships, which will be held on Oct. 31 at UMass Lowell.

NOTE: The team titles for the Bearcats are their first since sweeping the Vermont Fall Foliage crowns back on Oct. 20, 2024. In addition, Gansrow is the first Bearcat to win a women's individual championship since Leitner won at Vermont last year.
