ROCKFORD, Ill. - Binghamton men's tennis (2-1, 0-1 MAC) suffered a narrow 4-3 setback against host Northern Illinois (4-2, 1-0 MAC) in the team's opening match Friday afternoon at the Boylan Tennis Center.
The Bearcats grabbed early momentum by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Singles wins by senior No. 2
Robin Lesage and junior No. 3
Eliott Hureau put BU one point away from a victory, but the host Huskies won the other four singles matches, including a pair of three-setters, to steal the home win.
"I'm proud of the progress that we have made in our doubles and we battled hard as a team but it is a very disappointing result today," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We can't drop matches after the taking the doubles and starting that strong in singles. We let a big opportunity slip today but if we learn from today we can take some big steps forward in the coming matches."
Binghamton finishes off the road trip with a match at Western Michigan at 11 a.m. Sunday in Kalamazoo.Â
