Hall of Fame
A native of Roslyn, N.Y., Julie Klein played tennis at Binghamton from 1996-2000. A four-year standout, Klein's tenure at the top of the tennis lineup spanned Binghamton's transition from NCAA Division III to Division II. She compiled five conference titles and 126 combined singles and doubles wins.
Klein opened her collegiate career in 1996 and proceeded to go 10-3 in fall tournament play, lifting the Colonials to their 10th consecutive (and 12th overall) SUNYAC championship in the program's final year of membership. She captured conference titles at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles and helped the team place third at the New York State Championship.
As a sophomore, Klein moved into the top singles spot and won 17 matches. She was named first team All-State and was ranked as high as No. 33 in the nation.
In her junior season, Klein and the Colonials moved up to Division II and the New England Collegiate Conference, where they continued their dominance in conference play by placing first among seven schools. She captured a crown at first doubles and earned "Most Outstanding Doubles Team" accolades. Klein also was runnerup at No. 1 singles. She won 26 combined singles and doubles matches during the year, leading the team to nine dual match wins in its Division II debut season.
As a senior, Klein repeated as conference champion at No. 1 doubles and added a title at No. 1 singles. She was named NECC Player of the Year and capped her career by winning her final four singles and doubles matches in the spring. She repeated as team MVP.
Klein totaled 69 career singles and 57 career doubles wins and graduated among the top-5 for overall wins and wins at No. 1 singles and doubles.
She was honored with the 2000 Binghamton Athletics Citizenship Award for sportsmanship, leadership and community service. She earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2000. She then received a master's degree in elementary education from Hunter College in 2002 and a master's degree in social work from Fordham University in 2023.
