Hall of Fame
A native of Orland Hills, Ill., Michelle McDonough played volleyball at Binghamton from 2007-10. She received her bachelor's degree in mathematics in 2010 and earned a master's degree in education from Binghamton in 2011. McDonough then earned a second master's degree in differentiated instruction from Concordia University in 2014.
The program's all-time leader with 1,469 kills, McDonough was a three-time first team America East all-conference hitter and led the program to the postseason all four years, including an NCAA tournament berth in 2009.
As a freshman, she made the America East All-Rookie Team after finishing third on the team in digs and fourth in kills. One year later, McDonough led the Bearcats to a runnerup America East regular season and tournament finish. She pounded 385 kills and earned first team all-conference honors.
As a junior, McDonough and the Bearcats broke through with an America East championship and NCAA berth. She led the America East with nearly four kills a set and then led BU to upset wins over No. 2 New Hampshire and top-seeded and host Albany in the tournament. McDonough was selected to the all-tournament team and along the way, became the fastest Bearcat to reach the 1,000-kill mark.
In her final collegiate season, McDonough totalled 392 kills to break the school record for career kills. She also graduated among the program's top-five in digs (1,078), becoming just the third player to amass more than 1K in kills and digs.
Off the court, she was a three-time America East Volleyball All-Academic Team recipient and was the sport's lone America East Scholar-Athlete selection in 2010. McDonough was inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society in 2009. A two-time BU "Athlete of the Year," she also was named the John Bilos Alumni Award winner in 2011 and was the University's nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year.
